Aside from working with
the wonderfully deranged folk at Blessed Elysium (since 1988),
Sacrum Torch (since 1990), and Seattle’s Theatre Babylon
(since 2002), Terrence Fleming has been a perversely prolific
and financially unsuccessful writer. He has written thousands
of poems, hundreds of essays, dozens of short stories, three
plays, two screenplays, and one novel, none of which have
been published or produced. A collection of his shorter, comedic
pieces entitled “Dead Leprechaun In A Tire-Swing”
will soon be released by Falling Sky Hazard Press. He also
worked as an Associate Editor for the now defunct music magazine
Seconds.

Here is an excerpt from Mr. Fleming’s favorite rejection
letter to date.
It was sent to him by an editor at a popular, motorcycle magazine:
Dear Mr. Fleming,
Returned is the manuscript for your short story “A Scream
& A Squish.” Suffice it to say, we’re not
purchasing it. Obviously, you have not taken the time to peruse
our magazine, otherwise it would’ve been apparent to
you that our typical reader is not at all like the protagonist
of your story. Contrary to popular belief, the typical motorcycle
enthusiast does not make it a habit to run over armadillos
for sport. Nor do we particularly enjoy chain-whipping platinum
blonde dwarves in Men’s Rooms or having carnal relations
with truck-stop waitresses while driving our bikes over a
cliff. Motorcycling is a growing recreation and lifestyle
among all walks of Americans, and we invite you to purchase
a copy of our publication to get a good idea of the wide range
of people who enjoy this activity...
