Lisa Hammer is a NY independent film director. She is best known for her surrealist, German Expressionist films and experimental horror-fairy tales and dark comedies, as well as the voice of Triana Orpheus on Adult Swim's hit cartoon The Venture Brothers. She graduated from Emerson College, with a BS in Film. She founded the Blessed Elysium Motion Picture Company, which produces German Expressionist films. Such works include Pus$bucket and Crawley, a collaboration with Ben Edlund and Doc Hammer, her ex-husband. She has also contributed to Joanie4Jackie, a film anthology project run by Miranda July, which featured Hammer's film Empire of Ache starring Dame Darcy. Empire of Ache was recently acquired by The Getty Museum. Lisa's homage to the German Expressionist and silent era style of film-making are best exemplified in the films: Jorinda and Joringel, Empire of Ache, Beauty and the Beast, Adieux Dames, Naughty PSA and B.E. Follies. Her early silent films are available on the DVD collections Girls gone Grimm and A Night of Märchenfilme.
In the past Lisa has collaborated with Ben Edlund (Firefly, Angel) and Doc Hammer (The Venture Brothers) on such films as Crawley and Pus$Bucket, and with James Merendino (SLC Punk!). Hammer and Merendino co-directed a dark-humor feature film The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch, a film about a lonely hit man, which won best feature film at the 2009 CMJ film Festival. The pair will shoot a horror-comedy called The Bitch and have released their CD Bloody Ballads. Her feature film Pus$bucket, from the Broadway Musical, caused a few near-riots, and has been canonized in the cult movie world, and is now available VOD.
Hammer collaborated with Dame Darcy on the weekly television show Turn of the Century, a New York City Public-access television cable TV show done in a German Expressionist manner that lasted from 1996 to 1999. The show featured various New York personalities, including Daria Klotz (as Duchess Daria), Jennifer Nixon as Queen Itchie, Bliss Blood, Maude Swift as Secretary Jenny and guests such as Thurston Moore and Courtney Love, with film clips ranging from 1890's silents to modern films by Nick Zedd, Richard Kern and Tony Millionaire. . It was cited by New York Magazine as "the best public access show of 1997" and has been syndicated on public access stations around the U.S. The DVD and VOD are available now.
Hammer collaborated with cult star Alizarinkryz on the weekly NYC cable show POX from 2002-2004. POX was cited by New York Press Magazine as "the best public access show of 2003", and has also been syndicated on public access stations around the U.S. and on the internet. Hammer directed the feature film version of POX, which stars (alphabetically) Aarti Mann (credited as Aarti Majmudar¹), Lisa D'Amato, Clint Catalyst, Clayne Crawford, James Duval, and Jeff Lieberman, The Pox Show and the movie have been also graced with the talents of: Jon Benjamin, Jonathan Katz, Eve Plumb, Arden Myrin, Leo Allen, Levi Wilson, Gary Wilmes, Doc Hammer, and has been screened at the Midnight Black Festival and Gay UK Film Festival. Her feature film screenplay Sweetheart Roland was recently honored as a finalist in the Canadian International Film Festival. Other notable collaborations include: Maldorora and a Little Girl (Dir. Maude Swift) The Everlasting Gaze (Dir. Alex Garland) and Rub (Dir. Doc Hammer), My Virgin Widows, Period Piece, Grimmer than Grimm (Stageplay) Why Does it Do That?, Whimsellica's Grand Inheritance (Dir. Shade Rupe), and Ultimate Team Invasion Force.
Her RECENT projects include a biographical web series Maybe Sunshine (Directed by husband Levi Wilson) and the release of her feature film The Sisters Plotz. Her new screenplay Ghostapus is winning awards and has great talent attached. Her music video "Hunted: Werewolves of the Astral Plane" for her side-project Fashion Bird Danger Danger is currently winning awards in the international film festival circuit.
